At Baldwins Hill, we widen and deepen the essential knowledge, skills and understanding of learners in a variety of ways. Learners’ understand the importance of keeping themselves healthy and understand that a healthy lifestyle can help to develop self-esteem as well as the benefits it can provides to their mental well-being. During PE lessons, children are taught resilience and teamwork as they work together to develop their skills and understand the importance of being a good sport. All children have the opportunity to compete in their house team as part of Sports Day in the summer term and in team events against other schools throughout the sporting calendar at events such as football, netball, athletics, swimming and to participate in a local celebration of dance. We teach a variety of subjects in PE as required and set out by the government in the National Curriculum and each year group has the opportunity to have a qualified sports coach work with the learners and staff each academic year in sports such as cricket, golf, tennis, multi skills and tag rugby to develop their confidence, knowledge and skills. We use our school grounds all year round to facilitate high quality Physical Education.
From The National Curriculum in England – framework document 2013 Purpose of study
“A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.”
