In teaching Maths, our main aim at Baldwins Hill Primary School is to encourage each child to have confidence and a positive attitude towards Mathematics. With this in mind, we aim to link their learning to real life situations. We provide a wide range of ‘hands-on’ practical experiences where children are actively involved in becoming real-life mathematicians. We use 'White Rose' to deliver the National Curriculum in each year group. Children are encouraged to question, investigate, solve and share their findings with their peers and adults in a variety of ways using appropriate Mathematical vocabulary.
We believe in securing strong foundations for all children and use 'NCETM Mastering Number' from Reception to Year 5 to support us with this.
From The National Curriculum in England – framework document 2013 Purpose of study
“Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.”
